Memory Upgrade + Test

About Our RAM Upgrade Install

If your PC chokes on Chrome tabs or your photo editor crashes when files get big, you probably need more RAM, not a new PC. We pick the right modules for your motherboard, install them, and run a full memory test before you take it home.

RAM is the cheapest upgrade per dollar of perceived speed boost on most PCs that have less than 16 GB. Going from 8 to 16 GB on a 5-year-old laptop often makes the laptop feel new again. Going from 16 to 32 GB on a creative workstation makes Photoshop / Premiere / Lightroom genuinely usable.

What we check before quoting: your motherboard's max supported RAM, supported speed (DDR4 vs DDR5, MHz), number of slots, and current configuration. Then we recommend modules that match your existing kit (or replace it entirely) for the best price/performance.

People come in asking for a new PC because their old one is slow. Half the time, $50–$80 in RAM gets them another 3–4 years out of the same machine. We will tell you when it is and when it is not the right call.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the questions we hear most often in the shop. Still stuck? Text us a photo and we'll get back to you fast.

How much will a RAM upgrade cost in total?

Labor is $35 flat regardless of how much RAM. Module cost varies by speed and capacity: 16 GB DDR4 kits typically $35–55, 32 GB DDR4 $70–110, 32 GB DDR5 $90–140, 64 GB DDR5 $200+. We will quote exact total before ordering.

Do you bring your own RAM or do I buy mine?

Either works. We can source from our trusted suppliers (most cost less than retail) or you can order from Amazon / Newegg and bring it in for install. If you bring your own and it does not work with your motherboard, we charge the labor plus help you exchange it.

Can you upgrade my laptop's RAM?

Most laptops yes, if it has user-accessible slots. Many ultrabooks (especially Apple, Surface, recent Dell XPS, ThinkPad X1) have soldered RAM that cannot be upgraded. Tell us your model and we will tell you upfront whether it is upgradeable.

Will mixing brands or speeds cause problems?

Often, yes. Different brands, speeds, or even minor latency mismatches can cause stability issues. We always recommend matched kits (same manufacturer, same model, same speed). If you need to mix with existing modules, we test thoroughly before handing back.

What is XMP / EXPO and do I need it?

Both are profiles that let your RAM run at its advertised speed (e.g. 3600 MHz instead of the default 2133 MHz). Without enabling them, you bought fast RAM but are running it slow. We always enable the appropriate profile in BIOS as part of the install.
