We back up every phone that comes through the Twomey PC Repair bench in Highland Square before we touch a single screw. But you should do your own too, nothing beats a backup made on your own Wi-Fi, on your own schedule, the night before the appointment.
iPhone, two backups, 5 minutes total
- iCloud: Settings → [Your name] → iCloud → iCloud Backup → Back Up Now. Wait until “Last Backup” shows today’s time. If storage is full, we can help you clean it.
- Encrypted iTunes/Finder backup: plug into a computer, open Finder (Mac) or iTunes (Windows), check “Encrypt local backup,” set a password you won’t forget, hit Back Up Now. Encrypted backups are the only kind that save Health, Wi-Fi passwords, and app logins.
Android, Google + Photos belt-and-suspenders
- Settings → System → Backup → turn on “Backup by Google One.” Tap “Back up now.”
- Open Google Photos and make sure “Backup” is On. Wait for “Backup complete” before you hand the phone over.
- Bonus: plug the phone into a computer with USB-C and drag the
DCIMfolder to your desktop. Paranoid? Sure. Useful if iCloud has hiccups? Every single time.
What NOT to do
- Don’t factory reset “just in case.” That wipes the backup keys.
- Don’t remove the SIM or eSIM before the repair, we’ll do that if needed.
- Don’t change your Apple ID or Google password the day before the appointment.
